MDN is a firm that was born from the collaboration of a few engineers in
the field of corrugated cardboard with a well-established company which
works in the mechanical field.
The firm is managed by a young and creative staff geared towards satisfying
new needs and offering innovative, functional but above all high quality
products.
Customer orientation. We listen to our customers and respond to their needs
Quality. We provide quality in everything we give
Innovation. We take personal initiative for constructive change
Having given a brief introduction, I would like to present to you this new
type of in line impregnating machine suitable both for hot (resin and wax)
and cold products.
IMPREGNATED BENEFITS
Wax Impregnation is used to treat the corrugating medium and/or linerboard
when moderate moisture resistance is required or for high humidity
conditions. In this process, paraffin wax is driven into the paper fibers
to impregnate rather than coat the material.
The impregnating technology can actually help to achieve a more cost effective
utilization of the expensive fibres.
There are two elements that contribute effectively to the development of this technology:
IMPREGNATING MACHINE
IMPREGNATING MATERIALS
MDN has developed the RC1 machine based on the most advanced impregnation system
of wax or other to a single web and not to a board already combined.
This machine is simple to install, easy to manage and to assist, completely autonomous
in its functioning
This equipment has three important elements:
1) Impregnation unit
2) Melting tank
3) Electrical panel

It is the classic system of application by single roll (see drawing RC1 SYSTEM).
The applicator roll rotating in web direction, picks up a controlled amount
of coating product and applies it to the web that wraps the roll.
This system is the simplest available and also the most efficient.
It is used by the vast majority of coaters in operation, and is used almost
exclusively at speed below 250 meters per minute.
ELECTRICAL PANEL
The process is controlled by a sophisticated system based on a LCD board connected on a PLC.
FEATURES
- Totally independent unit
- Easy to use
- Speed from 30 to 200 mpm
- Consumption of wax from 5 to 30 gpsm.
- Automatic temperature control
- Controllable coating weights
- Reproducible coating weights
- Automatic tank emptying
- Pressure roll controlled electro/pneumatically
- Gauge adjustment on pressure roll
- LCD board controlled
Electrical power installed is 5 kW.
Steam needs (14 bar) are: 70 Kg/h when running.
Compressed air needs (6 bar) are : insignificant
AUTOMATIC TANK FOR PREPARATION OF IMPREGNATING PRODUCTS
FEATURES:
- Standard tank has a capacity of 1500 liters capacity for a considerable autonomy
- Equipped with agitator to mix products having different density and composition
- Special construction to prevent splashing during loading operations
- Equipped with steam and condense valves
- With this automatic controls:
- Pre set temperature
- Pump, agitator and applications web start ups thermostatically controlled.
OPTIONALS:
1) Insulation
2) Different capacity than standard.
Wax and resin are the most common products used for this process.
Liners are usually coated with wax.
Flutings are usually impregnated with a blend of wax and resin in a proportion that goes
from 70/30 to 50/50. This proportion is adjusted according to the technical specifications
of the suppliers of impregnating materials.
Economic balance between cost of blend and cost of fibres is another important factor for
evaluation.
The blend, following its resin content, increases substantially mechanical properties of
the papers and consequently of combines board.
Porosity, COBB value and consistency of thickness are the characteristics that have major
influences on the needed quantity of product to be loaded on the sheet in order to achieve
a given performance.
A good semi chemical fluting will certainly need less quantity to achieve a given result than a waste paper based fluting.
